God is still speaking. But the anger is real; it is powerful; and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races. I know, too, that Islam has always been a part of America’s story.

We need to heed the biblical call to care for “the least of these” and lift the poor out of despair. Kennedy called our “intellectual and moral strength.” Yes, government must lead on energy independence, but each of us must do our part to make our homes and businesses more efficient. The first nation to recognize my country was Morocco. And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear. When one nation pursues a nuclear weapon, the risk of nuclear attack rises for all nations. On science and technology, we will launch a new fund to support technological development in Muslim-majority countries, and to help transfer ideas to the marketplace so they can create jobs.

Moonscape! Thurmon stumbled to his feet and fought the wave of nausea that surged over him as his equilibrium teetered from the low gravity. Then in an instant his discomfort was forgotten. Standing on the brink of the cosmos, his ego drank of grandeur. All the splendor of Creation lay before him like a jeweled carpet. All his! All for John Thurmon, genius … explorer … murderer! For John Thurmon … first man on the Moon!
